Spider-Man 2’s PS5 Sales Have Exploded After Brand New Day’s Box Office Blowout

Push Square · 2 hours ago

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has seen a sharp rise in PS5 sales and player numbers following the box office success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Sales tracking firm Alinea estimates the 2023 Insomniac Games sequel has sold around 316,000 copies since the film's release, with data showing engagement climbing sharply from the movie's 30th July premiere. The trend highlights how Sony's film and games divisions can boost one another commercially, particularly as the studio looks to maximise returns across its various Spider-Man properties.

Analyst Rhys Elliott attributes the surge to a combination of discounting timed with the film's launch and the broader cultural buzz around Spider-Man. An estimated 274,000 players also tried the game via PS Plus Extra, and daily player numbers topped one million over the past weekend, a 2.6 times increase compared with levels before the film's release. Earlier entries Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered and Miles Morales are reportedly experiencing similar boosts, while Brand New Day's global box office takings have now passed $1.6 billion.
