KAMELOT’s THOMAS YOUNGBLOOD On Artificial Intelligence: ‘I Have This Weird Feeling It’s Gonna Run Its Course’

Blabbermouth · 6 hours ago

Kamelot guitarist Thomas Youngblood has spoken out against artificial intelligence, telling Portugal's Metal Global he hopes reliance on tools such as ChatGPT will "run its course" as people return to thinking and creating for themselves. His comments come amid an ongoing debate within the music industry about musicians using AI generators to produce melodies, harmonies and lyrics, a practice Youngblood said he and his bandmates would never consider after 30 years and fourteen albums together.

Youngblood said the only time he has used ChatGPT was to organise a tour itinerary, and expressed unease that such tools "learn who you are" based on the questions asked of them, comparing the growing dependence on AI to how people stopped thinking for themselves once search engines like Google became ubiquitous. The interview coincides with the announcement of Kamelot's new album, "Dark Asylum", due for release on 28 August via Napalm Records, featuring fifteen tracks that continue the band's RavenHill storyline, with production by longtime collaborator Sascha Paeth and a guest appearance from Miss World Chile 2025 Ignacia Fernández.
