Florida woman accused of faking cancer to scam hundreds out of $40K, police say
A Florida woman has been charged with grand theft after allegedly faking a cancer diagnosis to solicit donations from hundreds of people, defrauding them of around $40,000. Police say she used the fabricated illness to appeal to sympathetic donors, exploiting public goodwill for financial gain rather than genuine medical need.
Investigators found that more than 200 people had contributed money believing her claims to be genuine. She now faces grand theft charges as authorities pursue the case through the Florida court system.
