American Songwriter has published a light-hearted list recommending four songs from the 1970s that evoke the feeling of lounging outdoors in the sun. The selection spans soul, soft rock and progressive rock, chosen more for their laid-back, sun-soaked mood than for chart-topping success.

Featured tracks include Roy Ayers Ubiquity's 1976 hit "Everybody Loves The Sunshine" (No. 51, Billboard 200), which later found new life through hip-hop samples and an iPhone 12 Pro advert, and Pablo Cruise's "A Place In The Sun" from their February 1977 album, a follow-up to the Top 10 hit "Whatcha Gonna Do?". Also included are Ramsey Lewis's "Sun Goddess" featuring Earth, Wind & Fire (No. 44, Billboard Hot 100), and the more intense, cinematic "Children Of The Sun" by Billy Thorpe.
