Jeffrey Dean Morgan says that a decade after his character Negan bludgeoned fan-favourite Glenn to death on The Walking Dead, he still encounters angry viewers who swear at and confront him in public, blaming him personally for the killing. Negan's brutal Season 7 debut, in which he also killed Abraham, was a defining moment for the show at the height of its popularity, and Morgan says fans continue to conflate him with the villain despite Negan later becoming an anti-hero in the spin-off Dead City.

Speaking on Josh Horowitz's Happy Sad Confused podcast, Morgan recalled being struck with a purse and sworn at by an elderly woman in a Georgia coffee shop while out with co-star Norman Reedus, and said he still gets shouted at and gestured at while walking through New York today. Glenn's death had actually been foreshadowed in the comic books four years earlier, which Morgan says makes the intensity of fans' reaction surprising. He now takes the hostility in his stride, describing it as "hilarious" and noting that online opinion of Negan remains roughly split 50/50 between love and hatred.
