Spotify has announced a new "AI Persona" badge to flag artist profiles whose identity may be AI-generated rather than a real person, aiming to give listeners greater transparency. By default, music from artists marked as AI Personas will be excluded from personalised recommendations, and Spotify's review team will actively check profiles that appear to depict photorealistic AI-generated identities, starting with higher-audience accounts.

The badge will begin appearing on profiles from mid-September, though artists can start voluntarily disclosing today, 11 August. Flagged profiles will be notified and given the chance to self-disclose or appeal. The move follows Spotify's claim in September 2025 that it removed over 75 million spammy tracks in a year, though AI acts have still slipped through since, including a King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard clone found in December and the AI artist Sienna Rose, who released ten albums and placed three songs on Spotify's Viral 50 before being identified as AI-generated.
