Netflix has released The Last House, a sci-fi survival thriller directed by Louis Leterrier, who has since spoken to Collider about the film's making, hidden references and craft choices. He revealed that the production shot on the same camera lenses used in Steven Spielberg's E.T. and Raiders of the Lost Ark, one of numerous nods embedded throughout the film, and described it as his most personal project to date, despite a filmography otherwise dominated by action fare such as The Incredible Hulk and several Fast & Furious instalments, the next of which, Fast Forever, he also teased.

The film centres on a family of four, led by Greta Lee and Wagner Moura, who are confined to their own home as mysterious creatures lurk outside and supplies dwindle. Leterrier detailed building a large water tank set and using Henson-style puppetry to bring the film's creature to life, while deliberately keeping the nature of the external threat ambiguous. He also confirmed a longer, darker cut of 2008's The Incredible Hulk exists, and revealed he had just wrapped shooting on his next project, the Apple TV sci-fi film Liminal, starring Vanessa Kirby and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.

The Last House is a new Netflix film directed by Louis Leterrier, best known for action blockbusters including The Incredible Hulk and several Fast & Furious films. Described by Leterrier as his most personal project to date, it is a sci-fi survival thriller centred on a family of four, played by Greta Lee and Wagner Moura among others, who barricade themselves inside their home while unidentified creatures threaten them from outside as their supplies dwindle.

Since the film's release, Leterrier has given interviews, including one with the entertainment outlet Collider, discussing how it was made. These cover technical choices such as filming on camera lenses previously used by Steven Spielberg on E.T. and Raiders of the Lost Ark, as well as the use of practical puppetry to bring the film's creature to life, reflecting a deliberate homage to earlier eras of filmmaking.

Leterrier is also known for a busy slate of upcoming projects, including Liminal, a science fiction series for Apple TV, and Fast Forever, the next instalment in the Fast & Furious franchise, which gives added context to comments he has made about his career and creative choices alongside this release.
