Bethesda Finally Confirms The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered Patch Is Coming
Bethesda has confirmed that a long-awaited patch for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is on the way, coinciding with the release of the game's Nintendo Switch 2 version. The remaster, released in April 2025 using Unreal Engine 5 with development support from Virtuos, has not received an update on PC since July 2025 despite persistent performance problems, and the announcement matters because it addresses over a year of fan frustration at the apparent silence from the studio.
Digital Foundry assessments from May 2025 and May 2026 both found significant issues, including world-roaming hitches, frame-rate drops and performance that worsens the longer players continue, possibly caused by a memory leak. Bethesda said it plans to bring optimisations developed for the Switch 2 version to other platforms, though it gave no firm timeline or further detail. The game has proven commercially successful with over 9 million players, and Bethesda development chief Todd Howard previously said the studio was pleased with its performance, making the lack of updates until now notable.
