Portland Thorns midfielder and USWNT international Olivia Moultrie has been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering a season-ending ACL injury to her right knee. The 20-year-old sustained the injury during a training session last week, the National Women's Soccer League club confirmed, dealing a blow to both her club and country given her importance to each side.

Moultrie had recorded five goals and five assists for the Thorns this season and has made 18 appearances for the United States, scoring five goals; she was named US Soccer's Young Player of the Year in 2023. She is also expected to miss the Concacaf W Championship, a qualifying tournament for next summer's Women's World Cup. Moultrie, who joined Portland in 2021 after successfully suing the NWSL over a rule barring under-18 signings, said on Instagram she was "heartbroken" but vowed to return stronger, while Thorns general manager Jeff Agoos pledged the club's full support during her recovery.
