Nintendo has officially confirmed a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the Nintendo Switch 2, ending months of speculation. The remake will launch in 2026 to mark the Zelda series' 40th anniversary and appears to overhaul the visuals of the 1998 Nintendo 64 original with a graphical style distinct from the recent Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom games, which Nintendo describes as the game being "reborn".

A brief reveal trailer echoes the original's opening, showing Link having a troubled vision featuring Sheik, Zelda and Ganondorf, with the Triforce glowing on his hand. Ocarina of Time, first released in 1998, was a landmark title that moved the series into 3D and introduced now-standard mechanics like Z-targeting; it was later rereleased on GameCube in 2003 and remade for 3DS in 2011. The announcement comes as Nintendo builds out the Zelda franchise further, with a live-action film directed by Wes Ball, starring Benjamin Evan Ainsworth and Bo Bragason, due in cinemas on 30 April 2027.
