A powerful magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck Colombia on Monday, killing at least 95 people in the city of Cali alone, with more than 50 buildings collapsed there and further destruction reported in the north-western Chocó region. Rescuers, soldiers and volunteers are combing through the rubble of one collapsed structure, Torres del Limonar in Cali's Capri neighbourhood, where dozens of residents remain unaccounted for, including the elderly brother and sister-in-law of local man Efraín Gallego, who is anxiously awaiting news at the scene.

Officials estimated that around 25 people were trapped beneath the four-storey building, with roughly 10 rescued alive since the collapse and at least two more detected alive as teams tunnel through the debris. Cali's mayor, Alejandro Éder, imposed a nighttime curfew to speed up search efforts, and rescuers say survivors have previously been pulled from rubble after as long as seven days, offering some hope to families still waiting. The National Geological Service described the quake as the worst to hit Colombia this century.
