Former All Black Ma’a Nonu performed a solo haka in response to New Zealand’s pre-match haka before his Sharks side lost 54-0 to the All Blacks in Durban. The gesture, made with the agreement of the New Zealand team, was a respectful tribute from a 44-year-old rugby great to the side he represented for 104 matches.

Nonu performed Kapa o Pango after the All Blacks’ customary Ka Mate haka, saying he wanted to honour both his family and the team he loves. He joined the Sharks earlier this month as a mentor but was named on the bench because of injuries and Springbok call-ups; he played nearly 20 minutes and made a notable tackle on fly-half Ruben Love.
