Google launches Pixel Watch 5 with expanded health tracking

Google has unveiled the Pixel Watch 5, adding more proactive Gemini assistance alongside new health-monitoring tools, including blood-pressure-pattern and insulin-resistance tracking. The update matters because it broadens the watch’s role from fitness tracking towards longer-term health insights and emergency support, while keeping AI assistance available directly from the wrist.
Newly detailed features include persistent low-oxygen detection that may contact emergency services during a suspected breathing emergency, initially in selected European countries, plus 15% more accurate sleep-stage tracking and a Smart Wake alarm. Google says GPS route mapping is twice as accurate as earlier models; the watch is 20% faster overall, offers up to 40 hours’ battery life, starts at $399 for 41mm or $429 for 44mm, and goes on sale on 20 August.
