A 33-year-old woman is on trial after her partner's father died from "catastrophic" injuries when one of her two XL bully dogs attacked him unprovoked in her garden. Chanel Fong denies being the owner or person in charge of a dangerously out-of-control dog that caused Keven Jones's death, in a case that highlights concerns about the breed's power before it was later banned in the UK.

Keven Jones, 62, was bitten on the leg at least twice by the dog, named Cookie, in May 2022 at a house in Wrexham, north Wales, suffering severe blood loss that proved fatal within minutes, a Home Office pathologist told Caernarfon Crown Court. Fong was inside the house when Jones entered the garden alone and was heard saying "Cookie, get off me"; she later called emergency services and attempted first aid, but he could not be saved. Prosecutors said Jones, who was in poor health, addicted to Class A drugs and taking blood thinners, had been left alone with two powerful dogs, one of which, a female named Rogue, was in season at the time. After his death, Fong reportedly wrote on Facebook that Cookie "didn't attack Keven" and was "not aggressive in the slightest", though the dog was destroyed following the attack.
