D&D Rival Announces New Partnership to Fight Financial Struggles
Paizo, the publisher behind Pathfinder and Starfinder, is expanding its partnership with digital tabletop retailer DriveThruRPG by making its full official catalogue available there. The move should make its games easier to buy, but also reflects the company’s efforts to stabilise sales after severe distribution and financial problems.
Diamond Comics, Paizo’s former exclusive distributor, went bankrupt in January 2025, leaving about $10 million of Paizo books inaccessible to major retailers and preventing a quick switch to another distributor. Paizo lost nearly $2 million in 2025, cut 12 jobs in June, and reduced spending on free PDFs, organised play and virtual tabletop support; more than 1,200 Pathfinder and Starfinder titles will now be offered through DriveThruRPG, with print sales and cross-site PDF syncing planned.
