Uber Freight reportedly investigating after hacking group claims data breach

TechCrunch · 2 hours ago

Uber Freight is reportedly investigating a claimed cyberattack by the Helix hacking and extortion group. The company says its operations have not been affected and systems are functioning normally, but the incident matters because the attackers claim to have stolen potentially sensitive business data from a major logistics provider.

Helix says it obtained mailboxes, cloud-storage drives, accounts-payable files and dispatch documents, with some allegedly stolen emails appearing to involve Uber Freight customers. TechCrunch could not verify the files’ authenticity, which appeared to date from mid-June, and Uber Freight has not said whether it was contacted or paid a ransom; Google links Helix to the broader UNC6671 collective, whose wallets reportedly received at least $10.6 million in ransoms between January and May.

  • Uber Freight is investigating a claimed Helix data breach.
  • Operations reportedly remain unaffected.
  • Stolen files have not been independently verified.
