Aspyr has re-released 2011 action role-playing game The Lord of the Rings: War in the North as the Legacy Edition, bringing it to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2 and PC storefronts. The original Snowblind Studios game had become difficult to obtain after being delisted and was previously tied to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 generation. The new version retains its three-player co-operative action-RPG structure while adding contemporary features, including revised interface elements, autosaving, character switching and platform-specific control options.

The announcement also contains a broad commitment from Aspyr to issue further classic games from the Lord of the Rings franchise. However, neither Aspyr nor Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment named the titles involved, gave release dates or clarified whether future projects will be straightforward ports, remasters or more extensive remakes. Commentators have suggested older games such as The Two Towers, The Return of the King, The Third Age and the Battle for Middle-earth series as possible candidates, but these are fan speculation rather than confirmed plans. War in the North – Legacy Edition is described as Aspyr’s first Lord of the Rings release under licence from Warner Bros., indicating that the publisher intends the launch to begin a wider catalogue-revival effort.
