NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin has taken his growing passion for bass fishing to a new level, joining Bassmaster Elite Series professional Chris Zaldain for a day chasing trophy largemouth bass at Camelot Bell Ranch in Texas. The trip, filmed for Zaldain's YouTube channel, underlines how what began as an offseason pastime for Hamlin has become a serious pursuit, complete with expert coaching and a newly purchased high-end bass boat.

During the outing, Hamlin landed bass weighing 5.15lb, 5.13lb, 6.12lb and eventually 7.3lb before having to leave early to catch a flight home, while his companion Charlie Wend later hooked an 11lb 6oz largemouth in the trip's closing minutes. Hamlin has previously described fishing as a lesson in patience, a marked contrast to his day job racing at roughly 200mph, and by December he had bought a $67,995 Nitro Z20 XL bass boat from Bass Pro Shops, fitted with a "Hot Foot" throttle to match his need for speed.
