Netflix’s ‘Charlie vs. the Chocolate Factory’ Lands Wide Theatrical Release
Netflix will give animated film Charlie vs. the Chocolate Factory a wide global cinema release before making it available on streaming. The move continues Netflix’s expanding use of theatrical releases for major titles, potentially broadening the film’s audience and awards or box-office profile.
The film will open in cinemas on 5 November 2027 and arrive on Netflix on 22 December, ahead of Christmas. Directed by Jared Stern and Elaine Bogan, it stars Kit Connor as Charlie and Taika Waititi as Willy Wonka, who has been released from prison as Charlie and other teenagers plan to burgle his factory; Sony Pictures Entertainment will handle international theatrical distribution.
