‘She was just Gaynor from up the road’ – villagers ready for emotional Bonnie Tyler goodbye
Mumbles is preparing to bid an emotional farewell to Bonnie Tyler, who died in July aged 75 and was known locally by her birth name, Gaynor Sullivan. Residents remember the singer as a friendly, down-to-earth neighbour rather than an international star, and expect hundreds to line the streets for the funeral procession.
Her coffin will travel along Newton Road to her home on Mumbles Road on Saturday, before a private service for family and invited guests at St Mary’s Church in Swansea on Monday. The cortege will then continue to her birthplace of Skewen; tributes in the village have also reflected the renewed attention to her 1982 hit “Total Eclipse of the Heart” during Wednesday’s partial solar eclipse.
