Consequence ·

Mexican disco-funk band Midnight Generation have released a video for their new single, “Almost My Own”, drawing on Daft Punk-style electronic sounds and a retro vision of domestic life. The release coincides with the group’s North American support tour, extending their momentum after a sold-out arena show in Mexico City.

The video shows the Chihuahua five-piece doing household tasks before performing beside a lake. Singer and producer Fernando Mares said the song concerns a relationship that nearly became more, while its talkbox and synthesiser-led production aims to feel both nostalgic and futuristic; the tour began at Red Rocks and includes dates in New York and Los Angeles.

Midnight Generation are a five-piece band from Chihuahua, Mexico, whose music blends disco, funk and electronic pop. Daft Punk, the French electronic duo known for synthesiser-heavy dance music, are one reference point for the sound described in the band’s new work.

Singer and producer Fernando Mares says “Almost My Own” is about a relationship that came close to becoming something more. Its talkbox, which gives a voice an electronically shaped sound, and its synthesiser-led production draw on both older styles and futuristic effects.

The band are building an audience beyond Mexico, following a sold-out arena show in Mexico City. Support tours give groups a chance to reach listeners at established artists’ concerts and venues across North America.
