Netflix’s New 8-Part Sci-Fi Adaptation Could Usher in a New Era for the Streamer

Collider · 4 hours ago

Netflix is developing The Future Is Ours, an eight-part Spanish-language science-fiction series based on Philip K. Dick’s 1956 novel The World Jones Made. The article argues that the project could help the streamer stand out after recent criticism of its original programming, by combining a major author’s work with a Latin American creative perspective.

The story takes place in a dystopian future after a third world war, where an authoritarian American government faces a man with visions of the future and warnings of alien visitors. In the adaptation, the central character has been reimagined as priest Jonás Flores, and the production’s cast and crew are based in Latin America. Dick’s daughter, Isa Dick Hackett, will executive produce through Electric Shepherd Productions, which previously backed Prime Video’s The Man in the High Castle.
