Slovenian director Urša Menart’s dramedy “Everything That’s Wrong With You” examines loneliness, online deception and the fragile connections formed through social media. Premiering in Sarajevo Film Festival’s narrative feature competition, it was inspired by influencers who fabricated tragic personal stories and by the intense parasocial bonds followers formed with them.

The film follows Maruša, who returns to Slovenia after her mother’s death and becomes friends online with Alja, a nurse in Germany; their relationship changes when they meet. Menart developed the project over nearly seven years, drawing on her own isolation during the Covid pandemic and early motherhood, and believes its themes have become more relevant as artificial intelligence prompts renewed concern about genuine human contact.
