Twitch has introduced a setting allowing streamers to opt out of having their posts, streams and videos used to train generative AI models for its parent company, Amazon. The change gives creators more control, but has prompted concern because the option is enabled by default and it is unclear when, or how extensively, their content may previously have been used for AI training.

Creators can disable the setting through Security and Privacy in their Twitch account settings, though Twitch says this does not stop Amazon and Twitch using channel content for other purposes under its privacy notice. More than 16,000 creators criticised the default arrangement in a forum, while Twitch product chief Mike Minton said an opt-in system would mean too few people participated; Twitch’s terms since March 2024 permit broad reuse of content but did not explicitly mention generative AI training.
