Rider dies after Manx Grand Prix qualifying crash

BBC Sport · 4 hours ago

A fatal crash during Tuesday evening qualifying for the Manx Grand Prix on the Isle of Man claimed the life of one motorcycle competitor when two riders collided at Cruickshanks in Ramsey. The second rider involved suffered only minor injuries and was transported to Noble's hospital, whilst officials immediately suspended the qualifying session at 18:50 BST. Authorities initiated standard investigative procedures as the road remained closed for over three hours.

The incident represents the second serious disruption to the week's qualifying programme. An earlier accident on Sunday hospitalised Italian rider Salvatore Sallustro, and Monday's sessions were scrapped due to rain. The Manx Grand Prix and parallel Classic TT events, contested on the demanding 37.7-mile Mountain Course, will resume daily qualifying through Saturday before racing begins through 28 August.
