Google launches new study tools for students across Search and Gemini
Google has announced a broad rollout of AI-powered study tools across Search and Gemini, including interactive visuals, 3D simulations, customised practice quizzes and a new dedicated student hub. The update reflects Google's push to establish Gemini as the go-to AI assistant for students, as it faces growing competition from OpenAI and education-focused startups such as Knowt and Gauth.
In Search, users can generate interactive diagrams and simulations tailored to their queries, request custom practice quizzes on any subject, and soon use Lens to photograph problems for step-by-step guidance. Search can also turn uploaded notes, slides and documents into concise study summaries. In Gemini, new features include multi-step research reports that run in the background and can be discussed via voice in Gemini Live, functional 3D simulations for topics like DNA structure, and a dedicated hub combining study notebooks, flashcards and quizzes in one place.
