Meta brings Pocket, an app that lets you vibe-code and share games, to US users

Meta has widely released Pocket, an experimental app that lets users generate small interactive games with AI prompts, to all users in the United States after a quiet trial launch in Brazil last month. The move is part of Meta's broader push to bring AI-generated content tools to the mainstream, extending earlier efforts around AI images and videos into casual, shareable gaming, and reflects chief executive Mark Zuckerberg's stated aim of using AI-assisted development to ship new apps more quickly.

Pocket's AI-made games, called "gizmos", stem from Meta's acquisition of the team behind vibe-coded gaming platform Gizmo earlier this year. They respond to touch and phone tilt, include sound effects and song clips, and can draw on a user's camera roll or live camera feed; finished games appear in a scrollable feed and can be saved, remixed or reposted by others. Pocket joins a run of other standalone Meta apps launched in recent months, including Instagram Instants, the Forum groups app, the Seller marketplace app, an AI bedtime stories experiment, and a newly launched Meta AI app for Mac.

Meta has been on a run of releasing small, standalone apps built with AI-assisted coding, part of a wider strategy under chief executive Mark Zuckerberg to use artificial intelligence to develop and launch products faster. Pocket fits into this pattern: it lets users type simple prompts to generate short interactive games, dubbed "gizmos", which can respond to touch or tilting the phone and can be shared, saved or remixed by others in a scrollable feed.

The app grew out of Meta's acquisition earlier this year of the team behind Gizmo, a platform for AI-generated games. After a limited trial in Brazil last month, Meta has now made Pocket available to all users in the United States.

The case against

Sceptics worry that flooding a social feed with quickly generated, disposable AI games devalues the craft of the human developers and designers who spend months honing polished work, and risks normalising a glut of low-effort, near-identical content. They also raise concerns about a major platform granting an AI tool access to a user's camera roll and live camera feed, questioning whether the convenience is worth the added data exposure and how thoroughly such content will be moderated once shared widely. More broadly, critics see this as another instance of a dominant tech company extending its ecosystem into a new content category before the societal, labour-market and intellectual-property implications of AI-generated media have been properly worked through.
