East London man drowned in Snowdonia lake during walk with brother

A 20-year-old man from east London has drowned after disappearing in a lake during a mountain walk in Snowdonia with his brother. An inquest hearing in Caernarfon heard that Mahammed Islam entered Glaslyn Lake on 27 September whilst on a walk in north Wales, but got into difficulty and vanished from sight. His body was recovered by search divers the following day, and a pathologist has given the provisional cause of death as drowning. The tragedy has devastated his family and community.

Mr Islam had travelled over 200 miles from his home in Stepney, east London, to Snowdonia on the day he died. His family paid tribute to him as "a remarkable young man with a promising future", describing him as a devoted son, loving brother and cherished friend whose kindness touched all who knew him. Emergency services responded swiftly to the incident, and Chief Inspector Steve Pawson thanked all emergency responders and mountain rescue volunteers involved in the search and recovery operation.
