Paramount+’s ‘Star Trek: Lower Decks’ Replacement Goes Full Fantasy in First Trailer

Collider · 3 hours ago

Paramount+ has released the first trailer for its animated adaptation of Golden Axe, the classic Sega arcade game, positioning it as a comedic replacement for Star Trek: Lower Decks in the streamer's lineup. The series brings a light-hearted tone to the fantasy genre, contrasting with the typically serious approach of shows like The Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones, and reintroduces one of gaming's most recognisable properties to a new audience.

The show follows the three original playable characters from the 1989 game, Gilius Thunderhead (Matthew Rhys), Ax Battler (Liam McIntyre) and Tyris Flare (Lisa Gilroy), alongside Chronos "Evil" Lait (Carl Tart) from later sequels, as they set out to defeat the villainous Death Adder. They are joined by a new character, Hampton Squib (Danny Pudi), an aspiring adventurer who inserts himself into the group. All ten episodes will premiere on Paramount+ on Wednesday, 16 September.
