Ridley Scott Officially Eyeing ‘Adolescence’ Star For New Fantasy Epic With Hugh Jackman [Exclusive]

Collider · 3 hours ago

Ridley Scott has confirmed he is casting his next film, a remake of Treasure Island, and hopes to include Owen Cooper, the Emmy-winning star of Adolescence, alongside Hugh Jackman. Speaking to Collider at the London press junket for his upcoming release The Dog Stars, Scott revealed casting plans that build on Jackman's involvement, first reported in June, and confirmed filming will begin on 1 November. The announcement follows a run of historical epics for Scott, including Napoleon and Gladiator II, and marks his shift towards adapting Robert Louis Stevenson's classic adventure novel.

Jackman is set to play the pirate Long John Silver, while Scott indicated he hopes Cooper will take the role of young Jim Hawkins, the boy who embarks on a perilous voyage after finding a treasure map. Scott also said he hoped to cast Hugh Grant, though no formal offer or confirmation was given for that role. The script is written by Jack Thorne, known for Adolescence, Lord of the Flies and Enola Holmes 3, and further casting announcements are expected as the November shoot date approaches.
