Modern Warfare 4 Developers Address Need for Balance in Call of Duty

IGN · 5 hours ago

The developers of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 have discussed how they are working to keep multiplayer balanced ahead of the game's beta, saying the average player has improved significantly since the franchise's earlier instalments. Speaking to IGN, multiplayer design lead Jacky Reynolds said the team plays extensively together internally to spot and close off any exploit that could let a single strategy dominate the sandbox, referencing the notorious "One Man Army" grenade launcher glitch from 2009's Modern Warfare 2 as an example to avoid repeating.

That original exploit let players use the One Man Army perk to swap loadouts without dying, effectively giving them infinite grenade launcher ammunition to fire blindly across maps from spawn. Reynolds said Infinity Ward does not deliberately ship weapons it considers poorly tuned, and that balancing remains an ongoing conversation the team expects to continue once player feedback arrives after the beta's first weekend. Modern Warfare 4 is currently set for release on 23 October 2026.

  • Developers aim to prevent exploits like MW2's infamous "One Man Army" glitch.
  • Team says today's average player is far more skilled than 15 years ago.
  • Balancing is ongoing; more changes expected after beta feedback.
