Kali Bailey Adapting L. Frank Baum’s ‘The Life And Adventures Of Santa Claus’ For Monarch Media
Monarch Media is proceeding with a live-action film adaptation of L. Frank Baum's classic children's book "The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus," originally published in 1902. The story traces Santa's transformation from an abandoned infant raised in a magical woodland connected to Oz into the beloved figure associated with spreading joy and gifts during Christmas. Screenwriter Kali Bailey has been contracted to develop the screenplay for what producers envision as a sweeping adventure appealing to multiple age groups and audiences worldwide.
Bailey brings relevant experience from her previous work with Monarch Media, including the coming-of-age film "A Week Away," its television spinoff series, and the science fiction feature "The Lightning Code," which she wrote and directed. Producer Steve Barnett highlighted the project's appeal, emphasising Baum's historical exploration of Santa's background and the opportunity to present a fresh take on one of the world's most recognised fictional characters. Monarch Media's recent slate includes the acclaimed Richard Linklater film "Hit Man" and several forthcoming theatrical releases.
