Steve Way Wanted To Throw the Script Out the Window for ‘Furious’

Collider · 2 hours ago

Actor Steve Way has spoken about starring in Hulu's crime thriller Furious, revealing that his role of Alden was written specifically for him after he met creator Elizabeth Meriwether on a panel discussion about caregiving in the media. In a Collider interview following the broadcast of Episode 6, "They Make a Noise Like Feathers," Way described a close creative partnership with Meriwether, who tailored the character's dialogue and actions to reflect his own life, and explained how much freedom he was given to improvise on set.

Way detailed a highly collaborative process that continued from table reads through to rehearsals, saying he would often ask for a take where he could "throw the script out the window" and follow his instincts. One improvised moment he cited as making the final cut was Alden's line "Fuck the police" as he followed another character out of an interrogation room during a scene involving detective Danny Kelly and FBI agent Frank Choi. The episode also saw FBI agent Alice Black finally coming face to face with fugitive Catherine Grace, whom Alden had been unknowingly sheltering as his home-healthcare aide.
