The Game Takes Aim at Kendrick Lamar — and He Brought Drake With Him
Los Angeles rapper the Game has released his new album The Documentary III, a 24-track project that appears to take aim at Kendrick Lamar while featuring Drake, Kendrick's most prominent rap rival. The move is notable because Game and Kendrick were once publicly allied, with Game symbolically "passing the torch" to Kendrick alongside Snoop Dogg back in 2011, making this apparent falling-out a significant shift within West Coast hip-hop circles.
The album includes guest appearances from Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg, Ye, YG, Black Thought and Larry June, with Drake providing the hook (but no verse) on the track "No Brakes". Tension between Game and Kendrick had reportedly been simmering, surfacing during Game's July Verzuz battle with YG, where he defended his loyalty to Drake despite West Coast allegiances tied to the Drake-Kendrick feud. The Documentary III marks Game's first studio album since 2022's Drillmatic and his first Documentary instalment since 2015; Kendrick has not publicly responded to the speculation.
