A Sheffield court heard that a domestic dispute escalated into a violent assault when a 55-year-old man and his new partner attacked his former long-term partner at the victim's home. The assault, which occurred in November 2023 after months of tension following a 17-year relationship breakdown, was precipitated by online arguments and involved the use of weapons including a knife and baseball bat.

The victim sustained serious injuries including multiple rib fractures, a nasal fracture, and internal bleeding before the attackers departed. Both perpetrators pleaded guilty to assault-related charges and received prison sentences, with the 35-year-old receiving a slightly longer term accounting for his prior criminal history.
