The Star (Sheffield) · 1 day ago

Victoria Korlewala, a 20-year-old from Doncaster, experiences severe obsessive-compulsive disorder that profoundly restricts her daily life through extreme compulsive rituals. Her showers last up to seven hours whilst her handwashing routines consume eleven hours, leaving her able to use the toilet only once every two days. The condition, which began at age thirteen, has worsened significantly and has kept her largely housebound for the past two years except for medical appointments.

Beyond the compulsive behaviours, Victoria suffers from harm OCD, experiencing distressing involuntary violent imagery whenever she encounters everyday objects like kitchen knives. Though she understands these thoughts do not represent her intentions, they feel intensely real and urgent. Currently taking anti-depressants and anti-psychotics, she awaits specialist Exposure and Response Prevention therapy beginning in six months, which she hopes will improve her condition enough to enable her to study biomedical sciences at university.
