Double Fine’s Tim Schafer has confirmed that Brütal Legend 2 is not currently in development, despite the studio becoming independent again. He said the company will instead concentrate on “crazy little weird things”, while leaving open the possibility of a sequel in the future.

Schafer said a follow-up could feature newer metal artists, despite the deaths of contributors Ozzy Osbourne and Lemmy Kilmister, and noted that Rob Halford and Lita Ford remain potential figures. Double Fine is now pursuing updates for Kiln and an Amnesia Fortnight 2026 Kickstarter after separating from Xbox Game Studios in July 2026, regaining its intellectual property rights following 23 redundancies.
