Infantino asked to stay away from youth tournament

BBC Sport · 3 hours ago

Concacaf president Victor Montagliani has asked Fifa president Gianni Infantino not to attend a youth football tournament in the Dominican Republic, warning that his presence could distract from the event. The request highlights the growing pressure on Infantino amid a wider dispute over Fifa’s governance and his future leadership.

Montagliani said media attention on the controversy would undermine the CFU Under-14 Series, which is funded through Fifa’s Forward programme. Infantino had been invited by the Dominican Republic before his now-abandoned proposal to sell stakes in World Cup-related competitions to private investors; Uefa, Concacaf and the Asian Football Confederation have since accused him of damaging trust, although he retains support from Conmebol and Africa’s Caf.
