Spider-Man: Brand New Day secured a fourth consecutive US box-office weekend win, holding off newcomers Insidious: Out of the Further and Jason Statham's Mutiny. The Sony release's estimated $36.5 million weekend lifted its domestic total to $852.4 million, overtaking Spider-Man: No Way Home to become the third-highest-grossing film in US box-office history and cementing its place as Sony's highest-grossing domestic release to date.
Insidious: Out of the Further, the sixth instalment in the Blumhouse-backed horror franchise, took $10.6 million on Friday (including previews) and opened with an estimated $23.7 million from 3,330 cinemas against an $18 million budget, though it earned only a C+ CinemaScore. Statham's Mutiny, made for Lionsgate on a $40 million budget, opened with $2.8 million on Friday and was projected to take $7.4 million over the weekend from 2,600 cinemas, landing in sixth place, while Universal's The Odyssey was estimated to finish third with $18.5 million.
