Sheffield United are reportedly close to signing former England defender Ben Godfrey on loan from Atalanta. The move would strengthen the Blades’ defensive options as they seek greater reliability at centre-back, with Godfrey bringing Premier League and international experience despite recent limited playing time.
Godfrey, 27, joined Atalanta from Everton in 2024 after a spell in which Everton had paid around £20 million for him from Norwich City. He has struggled to establish himself in Italy and also had an unproductive loan spell at Ipswich Town, but Sheffield United are believed to view the temporary deal as a chance to revive his form.
