After 3 Hours, I Can Say Game of Thrones Finally Has a Worthy Video Game

Game of Thrones: War for Westeros is an upcoming real-time strategy game from PlaySide, due next year, which aims to let players command the major conflicts of HBO’s fantasy world. After a three-hour hands-on demo, Polygon found it combines base-building, territory control and hero-led battles in a style comparable to The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth and Warcraft 3.

The preview featured one-versus-one matches against AI as House Stark and House Lannister, with both sides gathering gold and influence but using distinct strategies. Starks can use heroes including Jon Snow and Robb Stark, while Lannisters have stronger economic controls and can eventually deploy Wildfire; the full game will also include the White Walkers and Targaryens. Heroes gain abilities through combat and are required to claim territory, while players can customise unit behaviours such as guarding and patrolling.

  • RTS brings Game of Thrones battles to life.
  • Stark and Lannister factions play differently.
  • Full release adds White Walkers and Targaryens.
