Anna Wintour is reportedly seeking new major patrons for the 2027 Met Gala after Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez Bezos decided not to repeat their 2026 sponsorship roles. The move follows criticism that last year’s event had become overly associated with billionaire wealth and technology, obscuring its fundraising purpose for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute.

Wintour reportedly plans a more restrained 2027 gala, with a smaller guest list, less ostentation and a clearer theme. The accompanying Costume Institute exhibition will focus on designer John Galliano, whose 2011 antisemitic and racist outburst remains sensitive despite his public apologies and rehabilitation efforts; potential new patrons include George and Amal Clooney, Netflix co-chief executive Ted Sarandos and Nicole Avant.
