Government figures cited by the Associated Press put the death toll at at least 312, with 29,000 homes destroyed; the UN said about 69,000 people, roughly 10% of Chocó’s population, were affected or displaced. Shakira separately committed $1.25 million to rebuild 10 schools and a university through her Barefoot Foundation and partner funding.
