Swansea City have signed Canada midfielder Stephen Eustaquio from Porto for an undisclosed fee, understood to be about £3.4m. The 29-year-old’s arrival is a significant addition for the Championship side, who have been rebuilding their midfield after Ethan Galbraith’s sale and Malick Yalcouye’s departure. Head coach Vitor Matos said Eustaquio’s experience, technical ability and leadership would make him important on and off the pitch.

Eustaquio has signed for two years, with an option for a further year, after playing for Porto since 2022 and helping them win two league titles. He has 61 Canada caps, captained the side during much of this summer’s World Cup and scored in their last-16 qualification win over South Africa. He becomes Swansea’s sixth permanent summer signing, while the club still want a central defender before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.
