Lambchop have released a 10-minute deadpan comedy short, Joke Country, shortly after their new album Punching the Clown. Directed by the band’s real-life frontman Kurt Wagner, it presents a fictional radio interview that becomes increasingly awkward and absurd, extending the album’s comic and self-referential themes.

Steve Marsh plays the radio host, while Henry Phillips portrays Wagner; Phillips also starred in the 2009 film Punching the Clown, from which the album draws inspiration. That film follows a comedian-musician pursuing a career in Los Angeles, and its title is described as a euphemism for masturbation; the short similarly relies on dry jokes, meta humour and deliberately disconnected exchanges.
