A series of hands-off previews has added detail to Grand Theft Auto 6 after Rockstar’s 26-minute Netflix presentation, although journalists and creators have not yet played it themselves. The coverage offers the clearest official account yet of the game’s open world, activities, police system and character progression, while indicating Rockstar is withholding direct player impressions until later.

IGN recorded 69 details from its viewing, including safehouses, dog-petting and a revised wanted system, while Kinda Funny said its visit produced 27 pages of notes. Rockstar North’s Rob Nelson told The New York Times that a playthrough took roughly 80 hours, including optional content affecting the narrative, and said the game will not directly address Donald Trump’s rise to power; Dazed reported that food and exercise can alter protagonists Lucia and Jason’s body weight.

  • Rockstar estimates a playthrough could take about 80 hours.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is the next main game in Rockstar Games’ long-running Grand Theft Auto series, which lets players explore fictional versions of American cities while following crime-focused stories. It is set in the state of Leonida, including Vice City, a place inspired by Miami, and follows two central characters, Lucia and Jason.

Rockstar Games is the developer behind the series, while Rockstar North is the studio leading work on the game. The company has released trailers and presentations but has not yet allowed journalists or online creators to play it, so much of the available information comes from official material and supervised previews.

The game matters because Grand Theft Auto is one of the most commercially successful and closely watched video game series. Its previous main entry, Grand Theft Auto V, was released in 2013, meaning the new game has attracted unusually high interest over its long development period.
