IGN was given an exclusive 30-minute gameplay demonstration of Grand Theft Auto 6 at Rockstar North, presenting it as a major expansion of the series’ open-world formula ahead of its planned November release. The preview highlights Leonida as a densely populated setting designed to reward unscripted exploration alongside the main crime story, with extensive activities, shops, opportunities and interactive non-player characters.

Players can switch between the two protagonists, Lucia and Jason, and explore or commit crimes together while managing character statistics through activities such as eating and exercise. Their relationship includes an optional affinity system: spending time together affects how their bond is reflected in the story, but players cannot end the partnership and receive no gameplay advantage for maintaining a close romance. Rockstar says they will remain partners in crime regardless of how much players engage with the relationship mechanics.
