PANTERA’s REX BROWN: METALLICA’s ‘M72’ Tour Is ‘An Honor To Be On’

Blabbermouth ·

PANTERA bassist Rex Brown has described supporting METALLICA on its “M72” tour for the past three and a half years as an honour. He said the stadium shows have given the band opportunities to play major, sold-out venues, underlining METALLICA’s scale and the continuing visibility of PANTERA’s reformed line-up.

Brown said METALLICA’s ring-shaped stage, with the Snake Pit at its centre, initially felt unusual but became natural once the band began performing. METALLICA members Lars Ulrich and Kirk Hammett have previously backed PANTERA’s return with Philip Anselmo and Brown alongside Zakk Wylde and Charlie Benante, framing it as a tribute that preserves the legacy of late members Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul.

Metallica are a long-running American heavy metal band known for large stadium tours. Pantera were a major metal band whose original line-up included guitarist Dimebag Darrell and drummer Vinnie Paul, both of whom have died.

Pantera later returned to the stage with singer Philip Anselmo and bassist Rex Brown, joined by guitarist Zakk Wylde and drummer Charlie Benante. The new line-up has been presented as a way to perform Pantera’s music while recognising the contribution of its late members.

Metallica’s M72 tour uses a circular stage, with a section for fans at its centre. Playing as a support act on a major stadium tour can introduce a band to large audiences and keep its music in public view.
