Tottenham’s signing of Scotland forward Kirsty Hanson from Aston Villa could prove one of the Women’s Super League’s most shrewd summer deals. Hanson arrives after a prolific campaign and sees Spurs’ growing ambition, alongside manager Martin Ho’s coaching, as an opportunity to improve and help the club challenge for major honours.

The 28-year-old scored 12 goals in 22 WSL matches last season, the division’s third-highest total behind Khadija Shaw and Alessia Russo, despite Villa finishing ninth. She scored 26 times in 100 Villa appearances after joining in 2022, while Spurs, who finished fifth last term, have also recruited Shekiera Martinez, Alice Sombath and Victoria Pelova as they target a top-three finish and Champions League qualification.
