Stephen Curry Doc on Hitting 4,000 3-Pointers Set for Imax Run from Disney in October (Exclusive)
Disney and ESPN will release the documentary Portrait of an Artist: Stephen Curry exclusively in Imax cinemas from 9 October. Directed by Gotham Chopra, it follows Curry as he reaches 4,000 career three-pointers and explores the creativity, discipline and technical skill behind his record-breaking shooting. The release matters because it turns a major NBA milestone into a large-format cinema event aimed at capturing the experience of watching Curry perform live.
The film centres on Curry’s game against the Sacramento Kings, when he needed two three-pointers to pass the landmark, using footage from 21 Imax cameras at the Chase Center. It also features reflections from artists including Viola Davis, Rick Rubin, Patti Smith and Jon Batiste, framing Curry’s basketball as a form of artistic practice. The production is backed by Imax, Religion of Sports, Unanimous Media and NBA Entertainment; Religion of Sports was founded by Chopra with Tom Brady and Michael Strahan.
